A HANDWRITTEN HELLO FROM PIPERTON, TENNESSEE

I’m glad
you’re here.

I’m Jeffrey. From my home in Piperton, Tennessee, I’m writing to people in every state. I’m asking what they wish the rest of us knew about the places they call home or the work they do for their neighbors.

If one of my letters found you, thank you for opening it. I’m grateful you’re here.

A NOTE TO SOMEONE, SOMEWHERETOURISM OFFICES

Hello, from here.

What do you wish more
people knew about
the place you call home?

A few words. A favorite place.
A story only you could tell.

With care,
Jeffrey

THE HELLO WE SHARE
One letter can open a conversation.A few honest words can keep it going.

WHY I STARTED

I wanted to make more time to listen.

This started at my table in Piperton, Tennessee. I wanted to hear what people would tell me about a place if I gave them the time and room to answer in their own words.

A handwritten letter felt like a good place to start. You can set it aside and come back to it. If you do write back, I’d love to hear about the everyday things that matter to you.

Thank you for spending a little time here. — Jeffrey

THE HELLO, STATE BY STATE

Where the letters lead.

I’ll use this map to share what I learn along the way. When someone gives me permission to share their story, their state will carry the project emblem.

The journey is beginning. Published replies will appear here as they are ready to share.

HOW THE EXCHANGE WORKS

A little about the exchange.

There’s room for your hello
01

I write first.

I’m writing to state tourism offices and Secretaries of State or their counterparts. I ask tourism staff what they wish people knew about their state. I ask public servants what they wish people understood about the work they do.

02

You can write back.

A few words are plenty. If you have a postcard, map, or other printed piece on hand and want to send it, I’ll keep it with your note about why you chose it.

03

You decide what to share.

I’ll ask before anything goes on the site. You can share a piece of your reply, share it without your name, or keep it between us.

WRITE BACK IF YOU’D LIKE

What would your
hello say?

A few words are plenty. Tell me about something you wish more people knew, or just say hello.

I’d love a reply by mail. You can use the return address on your invitation and write on behalf of your office, with colleagues, or in your own voice.

IF YOU’RE LOOKING FOR A PLACE TO START

What do you wish more people knew about the place you call home?

Take whatever time you need.

Your reply can stay private. I’ll ask separately before sharing your name, words, images, or anything you send. You can choose to share your words anonymously. If you write in your own voice, I’ll treat your reply as your own perspective.

Different places. Different paths.
A hello we can share.
